Hi, NOCO Crew!

Halloween weekend is here, and NOCO is going all in! We've got five towns handing out candy, a costume ball at the Stanley, and one last chance to visit two beloved farmers markets before their outdoor seasons end.

Sunday brings Día de Muertos celebrations, a chance to remember the people we love, and keep their stories alive.

However you spend the weekend, we hope you find a little fun, a little community, and maybe a full candy bucket.

Grab a coffee, and let's dig in!

– Megan

P.S. Clocks fall back early Sunday morning, and Tuesday is Election Day. If that ballot's still sitting on your counter, here's your friendly third nudge to make your voice count.

Every contribution keeps us out in the field, digging into local history, and showing up for the towns we cover. We're grateful for every bit of support. Thanks for being part of this.

— Megan & David

From Berthoud to the Wyoming state line, Fort Morgan to Estes, each week we pull together a list of the top events happening all over Northern Colorado. If you'd like to add an event to upcoming issues, hit reply and let us know.

The Biggest Event

DeVotchKa's Annual Costume Ball

The Stanley Hotel Concert Hall (Estes Park) — Friday & Saturday, cocktails 6:30pm, DeVotchKa 9:30pm

Halloween at the Stanley Hotel is already a pretty good story. Add DeVotchKa, elaborate costumes, aerial performers, and a late-night dance party, and you've got a Halloween tradition that's been going strong for eight years.

This year's Annual Costume Ball celebrates the music of Little Miss Sunshine, the film whose soundtrack helped introduce so many of us to DeVotchKa's wonderfully strange, beautiful sound. And honestly, can you think of a better place to hear it than the Stanley?

Make a whole night of it. Cocktails begin at 6:30pm in the Pavilion Lobby, the Slavic Sisters take to the air at 8pm, and the Concert Hall opens at 8:45 before DeVotchKa takes the stage at 9:30pm. Still have some dancing left in you? The DJ after-party starts at 11:30pm in the hotel's wine bar.

Tickets are $74.50, general admission, standing room only, and 21+. Both nights were still available Friday morning. The Stanley also offers a Friday overnight package with a room and two tickets, if you'd rather not make the drive home after midnight.

Costumes are part of the fun. Don't be shy.

Four More Worth the Trip

Trick or Treat Streets in Five Towns

Greeley, Brush & Severance (Fri) · Johnstown & Fort Morgan (Sat)

One Halloween night is fun. Two days of trick-or-treating across five NOCO towns? Your kids may never forgive you if they find out.

Friday's candy trail starts in Greeley, where downtown businesses welcome little ghosts and goblins from 4 to 6pm. Pick up a candy map at the Rio Grande corner and wander the shops, stopping for photos with Distortions Unlimited props, Spook Alley ghost tours, and pumpkin painting.

Brush keeps things sweet and simple on Clayton Street, also from 4 to 6pm. It's a shorter route that's especially nice for little legs. Severance gets started earlier, from 3 to 5pm, with trunk-or-treat outside and a haunted Town Hall and library inside. Bring a nonperishable donation for the Weld Food Bank if you can.

Saturday brings round two. Downtown Johnstown welcomes costumed kiddos from 10am to noon, with candy, activities, and characters roaming the streets. Fort Morgan starts with a free movie at the Cover Theatre at 10am, followed by trick-or-treating along Main Street from noon to 2pm.

All five are free, and there's something pretty wonderful about seeing our downtowns fill up with families, costumes, and local businesses getting in on the fun.

The Last Market Saturday

Larimer County Farmers' Market, Old Town Fort Collins — Sat 9am–1pm · Greeley Farmers' Market, 7th Street — Sat 8am–noon

There's something a little bittersweet about the last farmers market of the season. You've spent months seeing the same growers, watching the tables change with the harvest, and maybe getting to know the person who grows your favorite tomatoes. Then one Saturday, it's time to say, "See you in the spring."

This Saturday marks the end of a particularly special season in Fort Collins. The Larimer County Farmers' Market turns 50 this year! It began in 1976 when local Colorado Master Gardeners wanted to give home gardeners a place to sell their extra produce. Half a century later, it's still bringing people together every Saturday morning at 200 W. Oak Street.

Greeley's outdoor market wraps up the same morning on 7th Street, just north of Lincoln Park. Happily, those shoppers don't have to wait until spring. The market moves indoors to Zoe's Café & Events at 715 10th Street beginning November 7.

So grab one last bag of apples, stock up on whatever's still coming out of the fields, and thank the folks who've been showing up for us all season. They deserve it.

Halloween Organ Extravaganza

Organ Recital Hall, CSU University Center for the Arts (Fort Collins) — Sat 6, 8 & 10pm

If you've never heard a pipe organ fill a concert hall with Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, Halloween is a pretty good time to fix that.

Now in its 21st year, CSU's Halloween Organ Extravaganza has been giving Fort Collins a wonderfully spooky alternative to the usual Halloween plans. Joel Bacon and the CSU organ studio bring the drama with familiar classics and a few unexpected musical surprises.

Pipe organs have this enormous presence that is hauntingly beautiful, especially while hitting low notes you can feel in your chest.

Three performances at 6, 8, and 10pm give you options, but seating is limited, and this local favorite tends to sell out. Check tickets before heading over.

Chris Young

Union Colony Civic Center, Monfort Concert Hall (Greeley) — Wed 7pm

After a weekend of costumes, candy, and spooky soundtracks, how about a little country music?

Chris Young brings his deep baritone and a catalog of country hits to Greeley's Monfort Concert Hall on Wednesday night. If you've been singing along to "Gettin' You Home," "I'm Comin' Over," or "Famous Friends" over the years, here's your chance to hear them live.

It’s great to have a concert to look forward to once the Halloween decorations come down. Who says all the fun has to happen on the weekend?
