Hey, NOCO Crew! This weekend is stacked! Monster Day in Greeley is closing up shop after ten years. The Loveland Corn Roast is turning 130. We've got a heavy week for events, so I've kept the front end short.
Grab a coffee, and let's dig in!
– Megan

Every contribution keeps us out in the field, digging into local history, and showing up for the towns we cover. We're grateful for every bit of support. Thanks for being part of this.
— Megan & David

From Berthoud to the Wyoming state line, Fort Morgan to Estes, each week we pull together a list of the top events happening all over Northern Colorado. If you'd like to add an event to upcoming issues, hit reply and let us know.

The Big One
Monster Day: The 10th and Final
8th & 9th Street Plazas, Downtown Greeley — Friday 6 to 10pm (kickoff concert), Saturday noon to 5pm (main event)
Ten years ago, Ed Edmunds walked into the Greeley Downtown Development Authority with an idea about celebrating monsters. They said yes. What followed became a nationally attended street festival built entirely around latex, fake blood, and people in extremely good costumes.
Edmunds runs Distortions Unlimited, the Greeley company that's been building animatronic creatures for haunted houses for decades and turned that work into the Travel Channel series Making Monsters.
This will be the last Monster Day. Ed and Marsha decided that ten years felt right, and this Saturday the plazas will fill one final time with roaming creatures, mask-making, face painting, kids’ laughter, and more than eighty themed vendors. The costume contest — the heart of it all — returns for its last bow. Friday night, there’s a kickoff concert on the 9th Street Plaza.
Here’s what the flyers don’t always say: Monster Day is a fundraiser. Every dollar raised goes to Don’t Be A Monster, a nonprofit bringing anti-bullying assemblies to schools from fourth through tenth grade. A festival about monsters that helps teach kids how not to become one; that’s the real magic here.
The DDA is talking about a new fall event in the same spirit. But this isn’t about what comes next. This is about one last chance to be part of something weird, joyful, and unforgettable.
