Hi, NOCO Crew!

Halloween is still a week out, but this weekend is the dress rehearsal. Saturday has free carnivals in Loveland and Windsor running the exact same hours, a horror-carnival costume party at the Museum of Art, and a Stephen King costume contest up at The Stanley. If your costume isn't done yet, you've got until Saturday morning. No pressure.

Not into costumes? Swan Lake is coming to Greeley with a live orchestra, the Mountain States rodeo finals are at The Ranch, and The Gardens on Spring Creek is lit up with pumpkins four nights in a row.

Grab a coffee, and let's dig in!

– Megan

Every contribution keeps us out in the field, digging into local history, and showing up for the towns we cover. We're grateful for every bit of support. Thanks for being part of this.

— Megan & David

Rescued Food, Served Right

Vindeket is a Fort Collins nonprofit that rescues food. It partners with grocery stores, restaurants, and farms to collect good food that would otherwise get thrown out, and gives it away through a no-cost market on Delozier Drive. It's open to anyone and is fully staffed by volunteers.

Once a year, they pull out all the stops. An Evening with Vindeket is a seated, multi-course, chef-inspired dinner made from rescued food. Odell Brewing and OBC Wine Project are pouring the beer and wine pairings, there are hard seltzers and non-alcoholic options, and there's live music. Tickets are on a sliding scale, starting at $80 a person, and the funds go to supporting Vindeket's work to rescue food, cut waste, and get that food to the people who need it. One practical note: it's a seated dinner, so if you're buying separately from the people you're coming with, add your seating preference when you buy.

The Biggest Event

Pumpkins on Parade

The Gardens on Spring Creek, Fort Collins — Thursday through Sunday, 5–9pm nightly

The Gardens on Spring Creek is staying up late this week. Pumpkins on Parade turns the 12-acre garden into glowing pathways, giant pumpkins, and large-scale Halloween installations, and every major display was designed and built by local artists. There's live music each evening, games with candy-free prizes, and a full bar for the grown-ups.

It's timed entry, with entry slots from 5 to 8pm and the grounds closing at 9. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for kids 5 to 17, and kids 4 and under get in free. Gardens members get 20% off. Buy ahead if you can, since some nights and time slots may sell out, and on-site tickets depend on capacity. One thing to plan around: the Gardens closes at 4pm Friday through Sunday to set up, so a daytime garden stroll and the evening show aren't happening on the same visit. The Gardens is at 2145 Centre Ave.

Three More Worth the Trip

Shining Ball 2026

The Stanley Hotel Concert Hall (Estes Park) — Sat, doors open at 7pm

Of course it's at The Stanley. The hotel that inspired The Shining throws a Stephen King costume party every October, and this year's contest has three categories: Best Overall Stephen King Inspired Costume, Best Shining Costume, and a new one, Best Jack Torrance Costume. Prizes include cash and overnight stays at the hotel.

DJ Rockstar Aaron is on music all night, Hannibal is reading tarot, and there's a photo booth from MiHigh Entertainment. Specialty cocktails, including one called the Redrum, are sold separately from admission. It's 21+, and tickets are limited. If you'd rather not drive down the canyon after midnight, the hotel sells overnight packages (970-577-4000, option 1).

21st Annual Halloween Hullabaloo

Marketplace at Centerra (Loveland) — Sat 12–4pm

Centerra's Halloween street festival is in its 21st year, and it's free. Carnival rides and games, candy booths, a DJ, pumpkin bowling, face painting, balloon art, and a spooky selfie station fill the Marketplace near Hwy 34 and Rocky Mountain Ave.

The costume contest runs on the main stage from 3 to 4pm, with age groups from 0–4 up through 13+, plus categories for Groups and Family Pets. Each category awards Spookiest, Cutest, and Most Creative. Registration is free at the Centerra booth, but it closes at 2:45pm. Proceeds benefit the Thompson Education Foundation and local families.

8th Annual Windsor Halloween Carnival

Boardwalk Community Park (Windsor) — Sat 12–4pm

Windsor's free carnival runs the same noon-to-4 window as Loveland's Hullabaloo, about 20 minutes apart, so pick your town or plan a double-header. Expect face painting, trick-or-treating, food trucks, and inflatables at Boardwalk Community Park, 100 N 5th St. Bring your own candy bucket and come in costume.

The Windsor Downtown Alliance is running a downtown trick-or-treat along Main Street in collaboration with the carnival, so the candy route doesn't end at the park.
