Hi, NOCO Crew!

First things first, this is our 50th edition of NOCO WORD! Fifty newsletters filled with local stories, interesting people, and more things to do around Northern Colorado than any of us have time for. It's been a lot of fun putting these together, and knowing you're out there reading along makes it even better. Thanks for being here!

And in true NOCO WORD fashion, there's no shortage of things happening this week.

Saturday is especially packed. FoCo Fall Fest, Community Cue, Hallowine, Loveland's Pumpkin Festival, and the Art Studio Tour are all happening on the same day. Pick your favorite, or see how many you can squeeze in. Personally, I think lunch twice is a perfectly reasonable plan.

We've also got a surprising number of bats making an appearance this week. There's an operetta called Revenge of the Bat, an outdoor bat talk in Loveland, and a bat-themed book night in Fort Collins. Apparently, the bats have taken over the editorial calendar. I'm not complaining.

Oh, and there's a circus tent going up at Greeley Mall. Because… why not?

Fifty editions in, and Northern Colorado keeps giving us plenty to write about. Here's to the next fifty!

Grab a coffee, and let's dig in!

– Megan & David

Every contribution keeps us out in the field, digging into local history, and showing up for the towns we cover. We're grateful for every bit of support. Thanks for being part of this.

— Megan & David

From Berthoud to the Wyoming state line, Fort Morgan to Estes, each week we pull together a list of the top events happening all over Northern Colorado. If you'd like to add an event to upcoming issues, hit reply and let us know.

October 9 - 14, 2026

The Biggest Event

FoCo Fall Fest

Old Town Square, Fort Collins — Friday 4–9pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am–6pm

Old Town Square is getting a full fall festival weekend, and there's plenty to make an afternoon of it. FoCo Fall Fest kicks off Friday evening with live music, drinks, and a chance to enjoy downtown before the weekend crowds arrive. Saturday and Sunday bring the bigger celebration, with more than 100 local vendors, artisan shopping, food trucks, downtown restaurants, live music, and fall-themed activities, including some free ones.

This is a good weekend to wander without much of a plan. Browse the handmade goods, find something good to eat, catch a little music, and give yourself permission to spend an hour longer than you intended. The surrounding Old Town shops and restaurants make it easy to keep exploring after you've made your way through the festival.

Four More Worth the Trip

18th Annual Loveland Art Studio Tour

Various studios (Loveland) — Sat & Sun 11am–5pm

Loveland's artists are opening their doors for two weekends, and you can go see where the work happens. The free, self-guided tour takes you through working studios, pop-up spaces, and galleries, where painters, potters, jewelers, sculptors, and other artists will be showing their work and giving live demonstrations. It's a chance to see the tools, materials, and creative spaces that usually stay behind the scenes.

Pick up a map at the Loveland Museum or plan your route online. The museum's Foote Gallery also has a monthlong preview of participating artists if you'd like to scout a few favorites first. Can't make it this weekend? The tour returns October 17 and 18, with the same 11am–5pm hours.

3rd Annual Hallowine Festival

Silo Park (Johnstown) — Sat 11am–5pm

Halloween and Colorado wine are sharing a Saturday in Johnstown. The third annual Hallowine Festival brings Colorado wineries to Silo Park in Thompson River Ranch for an afternoon of tastings, live music, food trucks, and artisan vendors. There's also a costume contest with prizes, so you've got an excuse to break out the Halloween wardrobe a few weeks early. Costumes aren't required, though.

General admission includes a commemorative wine glass, wine tote, and unlimited tastings. There's also a VIP option with catered food and a separate wine bar, plus non-drinker tickets available at the gate. This one's strictly 21+, with no pets or re-entry. Parking is in the surrounding neighborhood, so be mindful of driveways.

Community Cue

New Belgium Brewing (Fort Collins) — Sat 12–5pm

Local chefs and backyard grillers are joining forces for a proper barbecue showdown on New Belgium's lawn. Community Cue is a pro-am competition organized by Friendly Nick's Butcher and Old Town Spice Shop, with teams pairing professional chefs and amateur pitmasters to see who can turn out the best barbecue. The competition includes awards for traditional and creative cooking, side dishes, and people's choice.

Here's the good part: you can taste what they're making. Samples are $5 each, and visitors get a say in the People's Choice award. Winners will be announced every 30 minutes starting at 2pm, with live music and local vendors filling out the afternoon. Bring a picnic blanket, find a patch of grass, and follow your nose. All the amazing aromas are free of charge.

Downtown Loveland Pumpkin Festival

4th Street, Railroad to Jefferson (Loveland) — Sat 12–5pm

Loveland's seventh annual Pumpkin Festival is taking over three blocks of newly renovated 4th Street, and this year's version has a little more room to play. There's a farmers market block for shopping and picking pumpkins, a decorating block where local artists help you create your own, and an entertainment block with DJ Beetlejuice, carnival games, a family-friendly haunted house, and live pumpkin sculpting.

The schedule gets wonderfully ridiculous: a group and family costume contest at 1pm, a Trolls performance at 2pm, pumpkin pie eating at 3pm, and a pumpkin hoisting contest at 4pm. You can also try pumpkin bowling, ring toss, and pumpkin golf. General admission is free; $15 gets you a pumpkin and an artist-designed decorating kit. It's also a good excuse to get back downtown and see how 4th Street is coming along after all that construction.
